Stay in Our Wood Cabins – A Modern Twist on Camping Pods in Cumbria

While camping pods have become increasingly popular on many sites around the country, at Drybeck Farm, we feel they are rather uniform and homogenous. However, as a structure, camping pods are very functional and effective. So, at our site in Cumbria, we have now put our own quirky and characterful twist on the camping pod idea with our own pods, or "Drybeck’s Quirky Cabins” as we call them. The wood cabins were built locally, and we think you will love them!

Wigloo

The Wigloo is the first of our takes on the camping pod concept. Looking a bit like a wooden igloo, this building has been christened the “Wigloo”. While being a portable building, it is more substantial than a yurt, although it does have a circular skylight in the middle of the roof like a yurt. It also contains a double bed and a wood-burning stove. While it is ideal for a couple, it is possible to put in extra bedding for 1 or 2 younger children. In its first season, there was a kitchenette inside the Wigloo. However, for 2017, it will have one of Drybeck’s fully equipped cookhouses to the side of it for your own sole use, leaving plenty more room inside. The cookhouse will have a hob/cooker, fridge, running water, and a full range of utensils and equipment.

The Lantern House

The Lantern House is the second of our takes on the camping pod concept. This is larger than the Wigloo, sleeping up to 4, and looks a bit like, we think, a traditional lantern, hence the name! It is very light and airy and contains a double bed, wood-burning stove, double futon, and fully equipped kitchen area. It is ideal for either a couple or family. The Lantern House is especially suited to those wanting more privacy, as it is quite a distance from Drybeck’s other accommodation. The Lantern House comes with its very own wood-fired hot tub, so visitors are able to relax and unwind in the beautiful surroundings of Drybeck Farm.
